DeepEn One™

Application
Blood flow tracking

Traces of individual red blood cells can be imaged (vasculature stained with FITC-dextran).

Measuring blood flow dynamics in individual blood vessels, with applications across neuroscience and specific biomedical fields, such as stroke research.

The holographic microendoscope enables high-resolution in vivo imaging of fluorescently labelled blood vessels (e.g., with FITC-dextran. Using line-scan imaging at ~1 kHz, the researchers captured red blood cell traces to derive blood-flow velocity profiles and power spectra, which showed characteristic peaks from heart rate, respiration, and slow (<0.1 Hz) vascular oscillations linked to neurovascular coupling. A comparison between straight-view and side-view probe geometries showed that the side-view design caused significantly less disturbance to local blood flow, demonstrating its advantage for minimally invasive vascular imaging.
