DeepEn at FENS 2026: Discussing Holographic Microendoscopes in Barcelona

Seven DeepEn team members standing at the company’s FENS 2026 booth beside the DeepEn One microendoscopy demonstration system.

In July 2026, the DeepEn team travelled to Barcelona for the FENS Forum 2026, Europe’s biggest neuroscience conference. Over several packed days, neuroscientists from around the world shared new research, exchanged ideas and explored the latest developments in the field—and our team was right in the thick of it.

Showcasing the Latest DeepEn One™ Developments

At our booth, we presented the newest developments of the DeepEn One™ microendoscope platform and spoke with researchers about how ultra-thin, fibre-based imaging can help them explore hard-to-reach areas of the brain. Many scientists stopped by to take a closer look, ask questions and discuss how the technology could support their own research.

Our automated DeepEn One™ demonstration system was a real eye-catcher. As it moved through its imaging routine, it quickly drew the attention of people passing by. Many visitors were surprised by just how small the 100 µm imaging fibre is—and even more impressed by the level of detail it can achieve.

Despite its tiny size, the microendoscope can image subcellular structures, such as dendritic spines, in deep brain regions, including the amygdala and the ventral tegmental area (VTA). It can also support repeated imaging over longer periods, making it especially interesting for researchers studying neural plasticity and neurodegenerative diseases.

New Ideas, Feedback and Learning

The many conversations at our booth gave us valuable feedback and sparked plenty of new ideas for pilot tests and feasibility studies using DeepEn One™.

FENS 2026 was also a great experience for our new technical team members, Wang-Cheng Yen and Alejandra Gómez Ramírez. They had the chance to speak directly with neuroscientists, learn more about their work and see how the technology they are helping to develop could support real research questions.

Back in Jena with Plenty of Inspiration

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, shared their ideas and took the time to chat with us. We had a fantastic week in Barcelona and returned to Jena with lots of inspiration, new connections and exciting conversations to continue.
